Denmark Stage 4 – Rorvig to Aarhus 38km (11-Jun-2018)

What happened to waking up to a clear blue sky, it’s dull with a heavy cloud cover and the breeze has turned into a wind. What a wind, headstrong straight into me all the way to Odden; it was a looong 2 hours on a bicycle seat; covered all types of surfaces, sealed paths, roads and dirt tracks. Everything ached, bum, legs, arms, but I soldiered on, even stopping to take a few photos whilst asking myself “what am I doing here” and reminding myself of why was I doing this”
As Dale Carnegie said, “Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto.”

Whilst I did it tough on the bike, Ursula had a leisurely chauffer driven bus ride to Odden. Relief came for me on board the ferry in the form of an unexpected serving of one of the best chai lattes I had in Denmark; maybe it was or maybe it was my imagination but who cares.

The 65-minute ferry ride from Odden brought us into Aarhus, the 2nd largest city in Copenhagen. I was so fatigued; I slept most of the way.
Luckily our AirBnb, was a stones throw away from the ferry landing where we were greeted by the young couple Julie and her boyfriend Lyngi. Julie had just come back from the dentist, where she got a wisdom tooth pulled out; not a happy day and I thought I had it tough. Poor thing, she was weak, in pain and very uncomfortable.
After a cup of tea and a bit of chill time we took off into town, walking through the small cobble stoned streets and admiring the lovely old-fashioned houses.
The Latino quarter was nearby with heaps of quaint little cafes and restaurants, catering for the many students living in Aarhus.

Came past the Cathedral and a big plaza, where they had a “Summerdance” workshop for anyone who wanted to join in. We sat for a while and watched them (all ladies of course) learn the steps and movements of the Flamenco. First impressions of Aarhus are good, lots of young people, a town with energy. We’ll explore some more tomorrow on our rest day. Then off to dinner at a very cute restaurant; one serve of very reasonably priced Fish and Chips and Moules & Frittes and the most expensive beer Ursula has had so far in Denmark (My mate, Hartwig, a beer connoisseur would not have been happy).
Mind you, the tucker was excellent; good value. Now back in our Airbnb for the usual chill time and catch up on news here and at home.
