No pressure today to meet commitments so took our time getting up and after a leisurely breakfast, I was the first to get going. My route today took me past the Frederiksberg Castle one more time, couldn’t resist taking a photo.
Followed the route on my Garmin for the first few kilometres but it was taking me onto tracks better suited for mountain bikes so went to plan B, riding on asphalt roads. Glad I made the change as todays ride turned into a very scenic one.
Stopped to talk to every man and his dog along the way including a girl on a horse riding on the bike path. The fluttering of my Aussie flag at the back of my bike is paying off; people are keen to have a yarn. Even stopped at a golf course, spoke to the golf pro, who was most accommodating; being a Sunday, saw a lot of golfers enjoying lunch. First time I thought of golf since leaving Australia. Talking of Australia, even stopped at a beach, a sandy one at that to have a yarn with a proud local claiming it was the best beach in the area. Have to admit, he was pretty spot on with what I saw. I was so enjoying myself that I had lost sense of time; realising I was already half an hour overdue to meet Ursula in Hundested, I put the metal to the pedal to really get going, loved it even with carrying 8kg of weight in the panniers. It’s funny what you can achieve when you are on a mission. I rolled into Hundested fresh as a daisy an hour late, there to greet me with a big smile on her face was my lovely Ursula, just as the ferry taking us across to Rorvig was pulling out of the harbour. Never mind, the next one was scheduled to leave in half an hour, which we boarded. By this time, we could feel a few raindrops with the temperature dropping.
We arrived in Rorvig around 3ish and walked the 1km or so to our lovely accommodation, me with my bike in hand with the Aussie fluttering flag and Ursi pulling her suitcase on a pretty deserted road. Sure beats carrying shopping bags on Golf Avenue at Mona.
Margit and Tune our hosts for the night welcomed us to their beautiful 2-storey home in a quiet secluded street in Rorvig. Such lovely architecture, beautifully furnished, elegant and simple all in one, with very nice touches to make us feel really at home. Then off for a walk through the forest to one of their nicest beaches in Denmark (according to Tune). We got there after about half an hour’s walk, but really, the beach was ok …… but coming from Australia where we are seriously spoiled for beautiful beaches, it wasn’t a patch on the likes of what we are used to. Still, it was a good walk and we continued back into Rorvig. Took a punt on a Pizza Place, which turned out to be the best, owned and operated by a lovely lady, originally from Sri Lanka, who had bought the restaurant with her husband some 12 years ago. Her family fled Sri Lanka during the terrible Civil War in the 1980”s and she was only 5 years old when they got to Denmark. Was very interesting chatting with her about life in Denmark. And the Pizza was seriously one of the best we had eaten ever!!! A perfect way to end another enjoyable day in this beautiful country.
Now back at our Airbnb for some chill time … tomorrow we are off to Aarhus for a 2-night stay.
