Copenhagen (04 to 07-Jun-2018)

Always an exciting time at the start of a new tour; had a wonderful weekend at Peti’s (Ursula’s brother) in Basle, balmy weather, couple of barbeques, long walks in picture perfect countryside and never ending discussions about anything and everything. Peti kindly dropped us (including the bike box) off at the European airport where the German, French and Swiss borders meet in perfect harmony to catch our Easyjet flight to Copenhagen.
On arrival, I put the bike together with Ursula’s help; she took to the train to get to our accommodation and I hit the road on my bike. Had a stop start as the bike was not behaving itself; promptly stopped another cyclist (after several goes at trying to fix whatever was wrong, which also included a couple of calls to my mate, Ellwood in Sicily) to find the nearest bike shop, which luckily was only half kilometre away. Duh! Turned out, only the tyres needed inflating. Guided by my Garmin, had a lovely 14km ride on perfect bike paths to our accommodation, with Ursula standing outside to greet me.
Copenhagen is a prime example of a perfectly functioning city with beautiful architecture and a clean harbour that seriously cares for its people and environment. If people are what make a place, then the Danes are super cool, approachable and friendly with almost everyone speaking perfect English. The morning rush of cyclists is quite something to see. The public transport systems works like a Swiss clock and very easy to use. It is a city with endless visual pleasure. Much to my delight , they even do Chai Lattes here 😀but sadly no decaffeinated coffee for Ursula 😒.

Blessed with perfect weather, we walked a total of 47km exploring Copenhagen in addition to a hop on hop off tourist boat service (highly recommended) and visited the usual tourist attractions, Nyhavn, the opera house, the little mermaid, the palace, the marble church, Carlsberg factory, Christianshavn, etc.  giving us a lot of pleasure. If pushed to name a few favourites, it would be hard to go past the people we met, Nyhavn, the hop on hop off ferry and crisscrossing the streets and the parks.

Sadly, I didn’t get an opportunity to ride my bike in this cyclists’ paradise other than the ride from the airport to my accommodation; I’ll make it up over the next few days, the start of the bike tour with Ursula following me by public transport.
