Day 33 - San Sebastian (07-May-2018)

Got up around 7.30ish - again, clear blue sky and looks like it will be another warm day. Fruit for breakfast, as most days we have good intentions to be healthy, and by about mid morning, this is all forgotten. No different today - bought some croissants on the way to the Metro station and they were consumed before we even reached San Sebastian. There we turned right instead of left and walked to the end of the far eastern beach; a surfing beach at that.
This area was much less touristic and busy with the locals. The sun was quite warm, but the wind a bit chilly, so as soon as we took our jackets off, they went on again and vice versa.
We only lasted about one hour before we needed our daily coffee / tea fix. And for good measure, had a sweet pastry with it. Then walked all the way to the western most beach.

Sharad was chatting away to a couple of young German girls, who were walking part of the El Camino. They had started on the border of France and Spain and were on the way to Bilbao. It’s quite a spiritual walk, so we have been told, and the countryside and scenery is spectacular. We took the Funicular to the top of the mountain and had another amazing view from the top down to San Sebastian. The town itself is very flat, but the surrounding area is very hilly and the many mountains in the background make for stunning scenery. Sitting on a bench in the sun, overlooking the town, beach and surfers, we dozed off for a little while - life seemed easy, happy and peaceful.

In the afternoon, we walked down the mountain, again very lovely views and lots of photo opportunities on the way.

Then back to the railway station and arrived back at our AirBnb late afternoon. I had some chill out time whilst she went in search of a hairdresser, as she needed a haircut desperately. Found one - and managed to get a nice haircut, even though she didn’t understand them and they didn’t understand her. Then off to the supermarket to buy the compulsory chips, wine, chocolate, biscuits and salad for tonight. I think we believe by eating salads in the evening, we are being healthy. We are not taking into account the wine, chocolate, chips and biscuits - after all, it’s a holiday and good intentions are not made during the holidays. All the healthy intentions can start when we are back in Australia - even though we might arrive there numerous kilograms heavier than we left!!
