Early start to the day, Ursi
got the bread rolls today (making no mistake) from the bakery; took one of our luggage bags to
the car, which was parked in the Lidl car park for free since arrival in Lisbon.
The bakery is in the same shopping complex. After breakfast and making our lunch we left the keys to the apartment
on the kitchen table as our hosts, Paolo and Joana were still asleep. We had
thanked and farewelled them the night before. It was a nice rustic
apartment where everything worked and was furnished appropriately in that
style.
Getting out of Lisbon and
the drive to Porto was easy as there was hardly any traffic on the road; as it was a public
holiday; it was freedom day in Portugal coincides with our Anzac day.
Driving to our apartment in
Lisbon, bordering the old town of Lisbon went smoothly, for once we followed the
GPS directions correctly; our host, Federico, was there to greet us to show the
apartment, provide us with the maps and information on Porto. It’s a lovely
little apartment (stress little) but it has everything one needs with nice
touches in a superb location. Would have no hesitation to come back again.
After settling into the apartment, made our way
on foot to explore Porto on a beautiful day; shops were open in spite of the
public holiday. Scores of people were out and about as we made our way to the
tourist area of the riverfront. Walked across the bridge to Gaia to get a different view of Porto and what a view it is!
On the way back to our apartment, scores of locals were peacefully protesting about something or another that had attracted a large police presence but as far as we know everything went peacefully. Had what we would call “roast of the day” in a local low key restaurant (my type of restaurant), high quality tucker priced reasonably. On that note, it was the end of another happy day.
