Day 10 - Granada (14-Apr-2018)

Beautiful day, early start, so a tad fresh in the morning; rugged up for it with a beanie and scarf. I knew the beanie bought in Canberra would come in handy someday. Making our way to the bus stop to go to explore one of the 12 treasures of Spain, Alhambra, we observed smoke coming out of our mouths as we talked to each other. One very noticeable difference here from Australia is the lack of birds tweeting early morning. It will make us appreciate our Kookaburras that much more when we get back. Something that was not different to Australia was seeing a lot of local cyclists dressed in lycra, meeting up with their cycling mates to go for a group ride.
Had booked the ticked online to get into Alhambra (highly recommended) so the entry process was painless. There was no escaping the hordes of folks who had come to enjoy this magnificent place and rightly so.

I am not smart enough to have the words to describe the place, best Wikipedia/Google it. We thoroughly enjoyed it, took lots of photos of Alhambra and Granada beneath; spent the best part of 3.5 hours there before making our way down to the city centre. We came across many groups of 10 or so girls all dressed in same costume, bursting into a song and dance routine every few meter as they made their way through the streets. We couldn’t figure out what was going on and weren’t game enough to ask until one group asked Ursula and I to kiss each other (we duly obliged) so one of them could take a photo of us whilst the others performed their song and dance routine in the background. It was then that we learnt that it was a hen party. There must be a lot of marriages scheduled in Granada in the next few weeks judging by the number of hen parties. We traced our footsteps through the old town form the previous day going up and down narrow cobbled stone streets to further stretch our legs (as if they weren’t stretched enough); ended up walking 15km.
Being start of the weekend and a lovely spring day to boot, It was lovely to see happy folks, locals and tourists sharing drinks and food with friends alfresco style on the streets of Granada.

All in all a lovely day, the highlight being the visit to the Alhambra.
We have become diet conscience, so stayed in for dinner; Ursi cooked up a storm, fish with potatoes and salad. Happy days.
